Zebrato

Created from the mid-1970s onwards, the Zebrato series represents one of the most imaginative and experimental interpretations of the Murano tradition developed by Fratelli Toso. In these works, iconic murrine produced by the company – such as the Kiku and Redentore patterns – were cut, fragmented and fused together, giving rise to dynamic and unexpected surfaces.
The result is a decorative motif of remarkable pictorial impact: an interplay of colours, shapes and signs that recalls the expressive language of contemporary abstract painting. At first glance, the overall composition prevails, characterised by rhythm and movement; on closer inspection, however, the individual elements become clearly visible, allowing the original murrine patterns to be recognised within the design.
These vases testify to Fratelli Toso's ability to continually reinvent its creative language, transforming some of its most iconic motifs into a new artistic expression that is bold, imaginative and deeply rooted in the aesthetic sensibilities of its time.
