Antica Vetreria F.lli Toso History

It was during this period that the abbot Vincenzo Zanetti approached Gregorio Toso and asked him to allow one of the brothers to learn how to make the precious pieces produced by hand prior to 1800.
Naturally, this was done in the evening, outside normal working hours, and slowly they increasingly perfected their technique of making glass click to enlarge by hand, so much so that in 1864 for the inauguration of Murano's MUSEUM OF GLASS, the Fratelli Toso made a big chandelier for the salon, still present, and donated 84 variously shaped, excellently made pieces to the museum. They received their first gold medal in recognition of this.
It is for this reason that the FRATELLI TOSO can be considered the true creators of the revival of handmade Murano glass.

In 1865 these glass objects met with great success at an exhibit in the Arts and Industry Museum in Vienna.
In 1869 a second glass exhibit was held and the Fratelli Toso received another award.

From that point on the artistic production has never stopped.
In 1872 PIETRO TOSO died and the inheritance he left to be divided began to become substantial.
In 1879 a shop was opened on Rialto Bridge in Venice to sell glass directly to the public.
